Happy Hour! Black Friday.

I...just can't help but wonder.
Happy Thanksgiving/Black Friday everyone! :)
I'm reading Barbara Fredrickson's Positivity. (I'm also reading Seth Godin's Linchpin, Gerry Fewster's Don't Let Your Kids Be Normal, Chris Cleave's Little Bee and Kate Pullinger's The Mistress of Nothing. Does anyone else out there read 5 books at once? I can't help myself...I think… Continue

2 x 4 – Hard-Hitting Life Advice from TMBC’s Strengths Experts
I've just discovered Marcus's idea of "strengths" and how we should emphasize them in the workplace. I think it sounds promising, but I have a couple of questions. First, what are the best ways…

Happy Hour! Is it the weekend yet?

Ok, so I know. This isn't exactly a great one - but it does represent the first cartoon I've done form start to finish, 100%, without any computer involvement in about...sheesh. Four years or so? Classic paper, pen, and a set of Pentels for color. It was a lot of fun to do. Sometimes it's a good idea to go back to your roots. :)…

I have just returned home from Los Angeles and the TMBC offices, where I was attending the Strong Manager Certified Trainer Session. Great content, terrific group of people, lots of interesting dialogue: all good. When I got home, I was greeted with a stack of mail and magazines and an imploring look from my partner which I interpreted as: "Are you ever going to read these or can I recycle them?" Since I hate to throw anything away that I haven't used up completely, I decided to start… Continue

As I am with pretty much any issue, I'm of two minds on privacy issues when it comes to flying. On one hand, I understand that I give up some aspects of my right to privacy when I board a plane. It may not be pleasant to unpack your entire bag when you go through security (and as a single male non-citizen traveling in the U.S. after 9/11, I seemed to get plucked out of line for special treatment almost every time for a few years there), but it's the price you pay to help ensure that… Continue

I am thinking of a new career path, but the career that I am thinking of might not be very financially rewarding. Do you think if I keep pursuing my passion, eventually I will find a way to make it financially rewarding as well?…

The Big "R"
You have a busy schedule. Up at 5 o'clock, in the car by 6, stuck in traffic 'til 7:30 cursing those idiots that don't know how to drive, can't merge properly, slowing down when they should accelerate, cutting you off, all conspiring to make YOU late for work, you're thinking......I have to do this again TONIGHT Nooooooooooo!
So you find yourself dreaming of the day you will R...... can't go there! too young for that, plenty of time to think about it......…

Happy Hour! Grown Up.

This week I had a dentist appointment. Not one, but two people worked on my face at the same time. Yes, two. One of them was in charge of holding my lips down (I don't mean to brag, but apparently I have really strong lips) while the other used a medieval torture scraping device that shoots water at high pressure from the tip, to clean my teeth. …

I'm in full reaction mode right now. I'll be fully transparent that I haven't taken the time to let the information sit with me and consider the perspective of the leaders who decided that the people strategy that I'm about to rip to shreds in front of you would be effective. I will certainly protect the privacy of the leader who described it to me, and the organization where he works but I feel I have a duty to employees everywhere to expose the cracks, no chasms, in this approach.… Continue

2 x 4 - Hard-Hitting Advice from TMBC's Strengths Experts

I took the Strong Life Test and my results indicated that I am a Pioneer and Advisor. A few years ago I did the StrengthsFinder test through Gallup. My top 5 were Empathy, Harmony, Developer, Adaptability and Maximizer. Is there a correlation between the two tests, and how do I use these God-given 'strengths'? I am currently out of work, but diligently pursuing opportunities. I just feel very scattered and…
