- Identifying failure modes, then making something more reliable as well as managing risks/consequences of inevitable failures

- Training and/or development, which will allow me to be replaced and do something else !?

- The Chrysalids ( though i dont remember a lot of it, i should re-read )

Time waster sounds negative, so i would say TV !

- Dont know about fascinating, but people are usually surprised at combination of things i do...., l used to love playing bridge, chess, golf , guitar , video making , music making, hiking , drinking new scotches or beer !
