We here at TMBC are excited to finally have the chance to discuss our newest tool to help people put their strengths to work. We felt strongly that this assessment had to go beyond simply describing those who take it; instead, StandOut gives you specific strategies for how to make the most of your own strengths in various situations. For those of you who are managers, it can also provide a wealth of information on the strengths of your team and on how to manage people with specific strengths roles.
We hope you'll find StandOut useful, and we look forward to being part of the discussions here!

My #1 was Influencer; #2 was Creator. Creator makes perfect sense (I assumed it would be my #1), but Influencer might have been the last strength I guessed for my #1. While I do see myself in a few…Continue

Comment by Luis Flores-Guerra on December 10, 2012 at 10:03am I use StrengthsFinder assessment many years ago in my coaching practice. A few months ago I took the StandOut assessment and it was a very good experience.
I would like to know where I can find information about what are the differences between these two assessments (strengthsfinder and StandOut) and how I can complement them in my coaching practice. I appreciate your help.
Greetings from Peru!
Comment by Stephanie Turnbull on December 10, 2012 at 9:51am I am creator and adviser, both of which do fit me. I also think that the equalizer fits me pretty well, too. What I do know is that I need to make some serious progress and FAST!
Alexsys.
I checked at Indigo here in Ontario, Canada, but they do not seem to carry the StrengthsQuest book. I did buy the StrengthsFinder from there.
Is the StrengthsQuest only available on-line thru Gallup?
Thanx again Alexsys !
I will tell him now.
I gotta go out for awhile, maybe he will check it out and i can discuss his thoughts later here.
Or...
Maybe he will join the discussion ! ( guess i better watch what i say here !? ) ;o)
Comment by Lexy Thompson-Moderator on January 27, 2012 at 8:59am Bob, way cool! there is a strengthsquest as well with more focus on school that may interest you.
Thanx for the feedback Alexsys. :o)
My son is really pumped up right now, and he thinks the assessment is spot on.
He really likes his #3 strength as well.
Having done the assessment myself, i was just a bit apprehensive about how it would work on my kids. The questions were all about work as i remember, and was not sure if that would be too hypothetical or something.
But i definitely wanted to give them some tools that they could use to get a good start on the workplace etc.
Doing this as a family will have huge benefits i suspect as well.
I find myself thinking about the other person now a lot more, and knowing their dominant roles helps centre my awareness on those areas that probably will matter most.
My son has told one of his peers about this as well, so i know they will be having a lot of discussion, as you suggest.
btw, after my son did his assessment, he came to me to tell me about it last night, and i said, "wait, let me guess" . I looked over the roles ( i had not thought much before that ) and went with my first gut feeling, and guessed his top 2 spot on !!
He loved that, so did I !

I have executed StandOut and StrengthsFinder with the ages 14 and up. I have found that at 14 the interest level in self awareness in general is not at a peak so the feedback they get form the assessments doesn't hold much meaning...UNTIL I did it with their peers and them. This was magical as the need to relate to peers is so strong and they found a secret code (language..the StandOut/Strengths language) and they had fun. The communication level in the group was also elevated. For the most part they see some of themselves in results and we find when they push back that is usually an area for growth. The 17 plus seem to embrace it more readily as they are coming into a transition period of their lives, which is a place for huge growth when we are open to it. As far as the results I have not seen them vary much with the groups I am working with. I am glad to hear you starting early with them, personal growth has a direct link to happiness and success.
My 17 year old, grade 12 son has just done the Standout assessment.
I bought the book for all my kids..
I was'nt sure if it could be accurate or not.
My son does have a job part-time.
I am wondering if there is more possibility for error with younger people?
Hoping someone may shed some light on this.
